Build a Mars Settlement with Your Friends

Many of us wonder what happened to Keri Waters (president of Santa Cruz Works 2018-19) after Residio acquired her Santa Cruz-based company Buoy. Some even thought she left the planet. Well, there might be some truth to that. Her recent LinkedIn post:

“As we head into the long weekend, it's my pleasure to finally announce what Erik Bethke and I have been working on for the last year! We're building a new MMO called Million on Mars, which is a single world, single timeline where you can build a Mars settlement with your friends. We are inspired to imagine and make real a version of the future that is rooted in both real science, and optimism. Million on Mars takes place in a rich narrative world (companion novel coming soon!), but includes a highly realistic survival crafting game, using space technologies and products currently available or under development from hundreds of emerging space tech companies. Along with Erik and our game dev crew, our all-star team includes Austin's own guitar virtuoso Matt Gilmour with the original score, The Butler Bros for brand & identity, and Ryan Gravelle on legal. We're honored to announce also that we've joined Capital Factory's venture portfolio, and are working with Bryan Chambers and Joshua Baer to fill out our seed round. With many thanks to the dozens of folks who have helped us get this far, we wish all of you a happy and healthy Independence Day weekend! #milliononmars

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a Santa Cruz Works exclusive interview with Keri about her new venture. And yes, we will ask if Elon Musk is riding the same rocket to Mars.
