NOTE: In order to avoid confusion, we would like to remind everyone that the selection of Ohio for expansion does NOT mean that Joby is leaving Santa Cruz or Marina. The Marina facility was a small scale pilot facility to learn what would be needed for a large full-scale manufacturing facility that can produce hundreds of aircraft per year. As Joby continues to expand, we will likely see subsequent announcements for Europe and Asia.

September 18, 2023: In a groundbreaking announcement this morning, Joby Aviation unveiled its ambitious plans to construct it’s first scaled aircraft production facility. The cutting-edge facility is capable of delivering up to 500 aircraft per year and will be located in the birthplace of aviation: Dayton, Ohio. The 140-acre site, strategically located at Dayton International Airport, holds immense potential for future growth, with the capacity to accommodate the construction of up to two million square feet of advanced manufacturing facilities.

Joby, a leading innovator in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, is set to invest up to $500 million dollars in this groundbreaking endeavor. The company's investment will not only revolutionize the aviation industry but also generate substantial economic benefits for the region. This bold initiative is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local workforce and economy.

The state of Ohio, JobsOhio, and its local governments have pledged up to $325 million in incentives to further support Joby's ambitious expansion plans. This generous package aims to facilitate the scaling of operations and underscores the region's commitment to fostering innovation and economic development.

Recognizing the project's alignment with clean energy goals, the U.S. Department of Energy has extended an invitation to Joby to submit a Part II application for a Title XVII loan. This loan would provide critical financial support as a clean energy project, enabling the development of the facility. Joby's commitment to sustainability is evident in its dedication to advancing environmentally friendly transportation solutions.

In the immediate term, Joby plans to utilize existing nearby buildings to commence operations while the state-of-the-art facility is constructed. This strategic approach ensures that production can begin promptly, allowing Joby to meet growing market demands and capitalize on its innovative aircraft designs.

With these groundbreaking plans, Joby Aviation is poised to revolutionize the aviation industry and cement its status as a pioneer in electric aircraft technology. The construction of this state-of-the-art facility not only signals Joby's commitment to pushing boundaries but also promises to reshape the future of aviation as we know it.
