Don’t miss Mynt Systems at Santa Cruz Works’ 6th Annual Green Tech event focusing on energy resilience.

When Graniterock, the second oldest active licensed contractor in California decided that they needed to improve upon their internal environmental sustainability efforts, Mynt Systems helped facilitate a full Zero Net Electric retrofit of their Watsonville Headquarters.

Mynt Systems, a Santa Cruz-based building performance firm with a focus on zero-net-energy retrofit projects converted the two-story, 62,000-square-foot building into one of the greenest offices in Santa Cruz County. Graniterock’s HQ was originally designed as an open Warehouse with 20’ ceilings, so the HVAC zoning and lighting were not appropriate for hundreds of people working at desks or in various new conference rooms. As a fully occupied office space with over 200 employees, careful logistical planning was required to coordinate the installation of all new interior lighting, crane in new HVAC equipment, and apply new window films.

The combination of internal efficiency improvements and fitting solar PV brought the facility to Zero Net Electricity. With 900 solar panels on the roof, LED lights throughout, and smart technology to run the HVAC system, the project reduced energy use and create renewable energy, dramatically cutting PG&E usage and representing Graniterocks 120-year-old dedication to the environment and operating as a sustainable business.
