Santa Cruz Accelerates#21: Wonderfil

Santa Cruz Works is excited to share some of the applicants who have applied to our Santa Cruz Accelerates Program. We will be featuring a handful of startups each week!

Name of your startup: Wonderfil

Team: Amelia Eichel, Shiloh Sacks, Jake Nations, Lillian Gwendolyn, William Morris, Eric Zhang, David Huang

A snapshot of the problem your startup will solve to make the world a better place:  Wonderfil is ushering in a future without single-use plastic packaging.  Right now, single-use plastic accounts for over 90% of consumer packaged goods (CPGs) packaging.  Through research into sustainable supply chain management, Wonderfil’s team discovered that contrary to popular belief, plastic packaging is not the key to an efficient supply chain—bulk distribution is.  Not only is single-use plastic packaging adding an extra, unnecessary step to CPG supply chains, but plastic production and disposal is causing serious health risks for people and the environment.  Now, more than ever, there is an opportunity to upgrade retail from a huge source of plastic waste to a hub for refill and reuse systems.  Wonderfil is building smart, scalable refill stations that can be installed in any location to enable plastic-free shopping for liquid and cream products.  The beauty of refill stations is not only are they better for the environment, but they are cost and time saving for consumers, CPG companies, and stores.  Wonderfil refill stations are equipped with inventory tracking software that creates benefits that plastic simply cannot.  Wonderfil is launching their tech at UCSC in October and piloting with eco-conscious brands, stores, and cities to phase out single-use plastics at scale.

"Santa Cruz is an up and coming hub for tech, and this program is the ultimate access point.  At this stage, connections are everything, and we are excited to tap into SCA’s network of mentors to take our startup to the next level."
