The pandemic illustrates not only the importance of scientists and engineers but also the importance of critical, evidence-based thinking throughout society. Science competitions offer valuable experiences to youth who will one day be the scientists, technology experts, engineers, and mathematicians of our future.

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education is requesting support from the community for the Santa Cruz County Science & Engineering Fair taking on March 19th to help young people eager to develop their skills.

Inspire and Empower Our Next Generation of Innovators

Hundreds of enthusiastic, clever students in kindergarten through high school are pursuing their curiosity through projects in science and engineering. Currently, there are 162 students registered for the event but only 35 judges. The SCCOE aims to have around 120 judges in total and thus, are in urgent need of adults to help interview students and reduce wait times.

Judges can come from any background but ideally should have familiarity or expertise in any of these areas: Animal Sciences, Behavioral & Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth & Planetary Science, Engineering: Electrical & Mechanical, Engineering: Materials & Bioengineering, Energy & Transportation, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine & Health Sciences, Microbiology, Physics & Astronomy, and Plant Sciences

The fair will be held in person at the county fairgrounds in Watsonville with a separate hall for judges to meet and eat. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for judges. If you have not already registered, use this link to do so ca-scc.zfairs.com ideally by no later than March 8th.
