Recently, Congressman Panetta took a tour of Parallel Flight Technologies (“PFT”) HQ to discuss Bill 109 and Bill 322 which addresses the growing wildfire threat through more advanced firefighting technology and wider use of prescribed fire. PFT is the manufacturer of Firefly: a heavy lift drone for saving lives, property, and the environment.
Firefly is an unmanned aerial vehicle that can transport 100 lbs of payloads for over 2 hours, 10 times longer than conventional drones. Payloads such as critical equipment for firefighters, medical supplies, and logistics missions.
The patent pending technology is similar to a Toyota Prius hybrid engine, combining electric plus internal combustion, delivering safe, powerful, long term flights. The hybrid system was developed in partnership with NASA for operational safety and reliability. As an added benefit, there is no downtime between flights. Just land, add more fuel, and takeoff. It can even fly at night and during low-visibility smoke and inversion weather conditions ground most manned aircraft for firefighting and rescue operations.
